| LINK BUILDING |

|
| Whilst we take every care in the overall layout of for website to ensure it is fully optimised for the search engines there is one aspect that is not directly in our or your control. That is the existence of INBOUND LINKS. The more quality links you can have pointing to your website the more likely you are to be placed higher up the rankings. Reciprocal links do not carry much weight however so best forget about the idea of exchanging links with all and sundry as it would seem that part of the search engines' algorithms, i.e. the formula they use to rate a website for a given phrase or keyword, have inbuilt into them a credit and debit system! In other words, whilst a link to your site from abc.com is yet another inbound link if you reciprocate with a similar link from your site to abc.com then the two cancel each other out! Ideally your inbound links should be one sided, in other words, the best links to have are those that are recommending your site rather than a simple exchange of urls between two websites! The links that link using a relevant phrase such as "search engine optimisation" or something relating to your website will always work better than those simply linking to your organisation name or url. Building good links is a long and tiresome process and best done over a period of time in order that the search engines do not suddenly see a sudden influx of new links to your website. This means that an idle hour on the internet now and again could be a good time to seek out and create those inbound links. There are countless free business directories you can sign up for along with bulletin board discussions related to your interest or trade where you could pass comment and end that comment with a link to your website (remember to put http:// in front of your url or if allowed a proper html link) If you can get a link from prominent website (such as the BBC, Yahoo or even Youtube) then so much the better as the higher the page rank of the site linking to yours the more weight that link carries with the search engines. Another option is to build feeder websites that are written primarily for the search engines. These can be simply built websites but well optimised with text relevant to your business or organisation and containing a link or links to your website (maybe to various pages) that link with a keyword optimised page. These sites should also have keyword relevant domain names that will further increase their rating with the search engines. Whilst not really written for members of the public to read they can be styled in a similar format and colour cheme to your main site thus ensuring that any real person stumbling upon oe of them will naturally follow the link on to your main website. We have followed this plan for a number of clients and cam individually host and write these sites for a very reasonable cost. With regards to domain names do note, that contrary to popular thoughts and ideas, a multiple keyword name such as keywordkeyword.co.uk will not add any rank with the search engines whilst keyword-keyword.co.uk would! Keywords need to be clearly separated in a domain name to have an effect. Lastly, if all this link building seems like too much hard work then you can pay someone to do it! |
