More and more people are using internet enabled mobiles to access the internet
and this aspect should not be ignored by the website owner. Fortunately, most
websites still render pretty well using a mobile device such as an iphone or a
phone with Android operating system. It should be noted, however, that Iphone
cannot display flash content and the area that would normally show that movie or
nice graphic will show as void!
In addition to this webpages may be slow to load if they have a large amount of
images on them and the user is trying to view that website using 3G rather than
a wireless connection.
We can provide our clients with a website specifically designed for mobiles that
will automatically display should your domain be accessed via a mobile rather
than a normal PC or laptop.
Setting up an email account on an Iphone
As more and more of our clients invest in Iphones we have published below setup
instruction for accessing your emails via your mobile device. These instructions
apply primarily to those using our website hosting but may well also work for
others.
To set up your iphone to receive email Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts,
Calendars > Add Account > Other > Add Mail Account
On the next screen enter the following settings:
Name: Your name as you would like recipients to see it
Address: The
email address for the
mailbox you want to setup
Password: The password for the
mailbox
Description: Your own description for the
mailbox
Press Save
On the next screen, leave IMAP selected at the top and enter the following
settings:
Incoming Mail
Server
Host Name: mail.yourdomainname (Or the mail
server host name/IP
address)
User Name: The
email address for the
mailbox you want to setup
Password: The password for the
mailbox (should already be filled in)
Outgoing Mail
Server
SMTP: mail.yourdomainname (Or the mail
server host name/IP
address)
User Name: The
email address for the
mailbox you want to setup
Password: The password for the
mailbox
Press Save
You will then get a message saying “Cannot Connect Using
SSL. Do you want to try setting up the account without
SSL?”, press Yes.
It should then connect to the mail
server and the account will be setup.
If you are having problems with sending mail, you may need to change the port
for the
SMTP
server. You can do this by going to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar >
Select the mail account >
SMTP > Primary
Server >
Server Port and changing this to 587.
We would also suggest that under your mail settings that you also set it to
fetch new data hourly (your mobile will consume bandwidth every time you check
for email) and that you turn off the "Push" option and use "Fetch" for
the same
reason and that also, under the advanced section of your email account that you
set your phone to never delete messages from the server. (By doing this you will
always get another copy of your emails on your main computer)
